Dec-Jan '12-'13

Winter (snow or not) means backbends. We are working on this warming practice through the darker, colder months. Lifting your chest and lengthening your back are mood elevating, too--just what we need for the holiday overwhelm and post-holiday doldrums.

The Community Center (COA) class is postponed until February. Celebrate your break!

Late Summer/Autumn 2012

Good late summer to you!

This is my favorite time of year – light slanting lower in the sky, vegetables and apples coming in left and right, impending color changes, cicadas buzzing, crickets chirping. It’s that lovely limbo between summer heat and winter cold, when a day could include a jacket, a swim, and a campfire.

Autumn’s changes mean a few changes for my yoga class schedule, too.


Beginning Sept 10 (the week after Labor Day holiday):

Mondays, 7 :05 – 8:05 PM. This class follows a toning/weights class, so if you are inclined to build some muscle and get all warmed up, stay for yoga and lengthen yourself out again!

Yoga at Noon goes to Wed/Fri. 12:10 – 12:50 /1 PM -- as those who come know we linger a little longer for those who can stay.

Silver Sneakers Yoga Wed/Fri. 2:15 – 3 PM

Community Center

August - November
Chair Yoga, Tuesdays /Thurs 6:30 – 7:30 PM at the Three Rivers Community Center/COA. Each class requires you call and confirm your attendance. There’s a minimum for each class to run. 279-8083.

Thai Yoga Bodywork

I’m taking appointments for Tues/Thurs and Saturdays. Cost is 30.00/hour.

Host a “Thai Party” in the manner of Tupperware/Pampered Chef/et al. Each participant gets to try Thai for 30 minutes at 20.00/person. Attendance is limited to 4 - 6 people.

I will come to you (within 30 miles of Three Rivers), bringing the Thai mat/props needed; friends gather in an open room and chat while each person gets a turn. Since Thai is done on the floor, fully clothed, there’s no need to separate from the group. Catch up with friends and feel amazing afterwards.

Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga on Tuesday/Thursday evenings, 6:30 - 7:30 PM. 

Enter by the side door (south end). 
The front door is locked after-hours.

Cost is 3.00/person. Any community member is welcome.

Chair Yoga uses gentle seated and standing exercises to improve range of motion, strength, and flexibility. We also do guided breathing techniques to decrease stress and blood pressure.

Yoga @ Fisher Lake

Yoga by the lake Yoga is done for the season. 
Boards still available for rent.

Try a yoga class unlike any in the area, using a prop to enhance and challenge the more athletic and daring: paddle boards. 

Practicing on a paddle board requires strength and balance, transforming “easy” poses into poses requiring more concentration and skill.

Do yoga for the first time,
 do  yoga for what feels like the first time.

Spring Twisting

It's March, which means...

Our practice shifts from heat-building flow (countering winter stagnation) to gradual twists to wring us out for spring.

Twist conservatively if you have spinal issues (bulging discs, pinched nerves) and evaluate how you feel later that day/the next day to determine how "far" is safe for your body.

Donna Farhi writes that forcing the body's bones/muscles into a twist is "one of the most common causes" of injury in yoga practitioners. Turn no further than your organs permit and let "the muscles and bones support and guide the intention and initiation of the soft inner organs" (159).
