Winter emphasis: the "b-word"

Winter weather has arrived (on most days), so we have begun practicing chest/sternum- lifting poses. These are also called "backbends" but most of these poses do not look like the rainbow arch/gymnastic drop-back many people imagine with the "b-word."

Backbends are ideal winter poses because they generate heat and lift your spirits. Winter can be a time of low energy and the blues (yet another "b-word"). Backbending/chest lifting helps counter the natural introspection and stuck/frozen feelings of the season.

There are modifications using a chair/wall for most poses; for those who want to proceed into full backbends--you are welcome. Most of us are challenged with less acrobatic poses, though.

Yoga is for every body!
